Eilat is located near several sites that are significant in biblical history.
One of these sites is the Red Sea, which the Bible describes as the body of water that the Israelites crossed during the Exodus from Egypt. According to the Book of Exodus, God parted the Red Sea, allowing the Israelites to escape Pharaoh’s army and safely cross to the other side.
Today we will enjoy the Red Sea’s clear waters, coral reefs, and the diverse marine life through activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving and fun boat rides.
The Edom Mountains, also known as the Mountains of Seir, are mentioned several times in the Bible.
The descendants of Esau: According to the Bible, Esau settled in the mountains of Seir after he sold his birthright to Jacob (Genesis 36:8-9).
The Israelites’ journey: During the Israelites’ journey from Egypt to the Promised Land, they were commanded to avoid the land of the Edomites and not to provoke them (Deuteronomy 2:4-5). Later, when the Israelites were on the brink of entering the Promised Land, they sent messengers to the king of Edom, requesting permission to pass through his land, but were denied (Numbers 20:14-21).
The prophecy of Obadiah: The Book of Obadiah contains a prophecy against the Edomites, warning them of their impending destruction. The prophecy describes the Edomites’ pride and arrogance, and their mistreatment of the Israelites (Obadiah 1:10-14). The prophecy concludes with a promise of restoration for the Israelites and judgment for the Edomites (Obadiah 1:15-21)
